January 10-14

Welcome Back
Happy New Year!
Parents, I want to thank all of you again for making my Christmas extra special with all of your wonderful gifts.  I hope that everyone had a healthy and happy Christmas.

Back to School
Over the past two weeks we have taken the opportunity to review our classroom skills and routines so that we can prepare ourselves for new learning and new skills.

  • Walking in a line
  • Sitting and paying attention at circle time
  • Follow our morning routine (hanging up our jackets, taking out our folders, and putting our snacks on the tray)
  • Bathroom care
  • How to carry a lesson
  • How to clean up a lesson
  • Listening and follow one step directions.
Blessing of the Door
In honor of the Feast of the Epiphany and the beginning of a new year, we blessed our classrooms, remembering the hospitality of the Holy Family to the three Wise Men and asking for protection and blessing on each classroom and all who learn in it. The blessing is done by writing on the door with chalk the symbols 20+C+M+B+22. The 20 and 22 represent the current year. The + reminds us of the cross of Jesus. The C, M, and B stand for the traditional names of the Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, as well as an abbreviation for the Latin phrase “Christus mansionem benedicat” which means “Christ bless this place.” Students participated in the blessing by sprinkling holy water on the door and sharing a prayer of blessing together.

Dr. Martin Luther King
This week we talked about Dr. Martin Luther King.
We talked about how much he loved the Lord and wanted to do his work.
We also talked about how he wanted everyone to get along and live in peace.

Happy Birthday Cornelia Connelly

Let Us Love One Another
Let us love one another and pray
Let us love one another and be faithful
Let us love one another and be humble,
Let us love one another and be filled with the charity of God
Let us love one another with God, in God, and for God
And we shall thus be one with Him for all eternity.
 Amen “

Snow Sensory Fun
After a wonderful week of hard work, we ended our week by playing in the snow.  We even had some of our penguin friends join us.

Where does snow come from?
Is it hot or cold?
What happens to snow (snowmen) when it gets cold?
What colors are our penguins?
What do they like to eat?
Do penguins fly?
What do you like to do in the snow?
