Holy Child Families we are really starting to set into a good routine.  Our mornings are filled with smiling faces and the children are really starting to bond and form friendships.

Apples 

     This week we have had a lot of fun exploring apples.  We read Ten Apples on Top by Dr. Seuss and put bean bags on top of each other heads.  We tasted all different kinds of apples, and they loved them all.  We did some apples smelling  and  they smelled good!  We also learn a new poem this week, " Way up high in an apple tree."  Next week we will be making apple sauce!

                                                             

 Sensory Time

      Sensory play encourages scientific processes because problems are solved using the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. ... By stimulating your child's senses you are helping their brain develop because when a sense is engaged neural pathways are being created to assist with further learning in later years.

Our good little apples had a great time cutting into apples to find the star with seeds inside.  But even more fun painting with them!

Who Is Bob?

      Well Bob is our friendly little classroom fish.  He is well loved!  They love feeding Bob and looking at Bob with the magnifying glass and color paddles.  When we are a little sad Bob is there to cheer us right up.

Sign Language 

Why do we do sign language?

• Accelerated speech and emotional development
• Enables children to communicate effectively
• Lowers frustration levels
• Reinforces the learning of educational concepts such as ABC’s, animals, and other specific themes
• Helps children remember words because there is muscle memory involved, and the more senses involved in learning, the greater memory retention the child will have
• Improves attentiveness to social gestures of others as well as of themselves
• Larger speaking vocabulary and ability to form longer sentences
• It improves fine motor and gross motor skills 
• Helps children with their visual perception

What can I be doing at home?

• Read to them daily or visit your local library for a story time.
• Give them a job at home (setting the table, feeding your pet, help make the bed, etc)
• Let them try themselves, wait to help
• Let them pick out their own clothes and try putting them on
• Puzzles
• Color with them
• If they make a mess have them help you clean it up.
• Try and get them to communicate more, try not to let them point to things, have them say what they want

Nursery 2 families we are off to a great start.  We are making new friends and learning new things. But Most of all, it has been a couple of weeks of first!

When your child gets home each day I am sure you want to ask " How was your day" and they probably wont be able to tell you what you want to know!   Use the daily log to stir up some memories of the day.

  Books are available for purchase by completing the order form and returning it to school with a check payment or ordering online. Checks are to be made out to Scholastic. All items purchased help us earn points for books and other materials for our classroom.
