Parents 

Although it has been a short week do the snow we did get a lot of  work done.This month we will begin using our core Montessoir Materials. The Pink Tower, the Brown Stair helped us see relationship and a visual understanding of objects getting incrementally thinner and thicker. Another purpose for these two martials is called “materialized abstractions” – the sensorial materials help bring concepts that were abstract into the concrete. We will be introducing the knob cylinders and knobless cylinders next for the children. We have been working with sandpaper numbers for some time and we have also now introduce

Sensorial Montessori work promotes:

1) Visual perception and muscular feel of differences in size

2) Understanding and awareness of dimensions and spatial location

3) Math readiness: Prepares for geometry and concept of numbers

Practical  Life 

Another core Montessori principle of Montessori is care of  our environment.  Thursday the children helped me water the plants and clean the classroom.  I hope that these life skill will make it into your home.

February 5, 2021

• Please remember to send in a Water bottle everyday.

• If you would like to send in Valentines for your child's classmates we will be giving them out on Wednesday, February 10th, so our three day a week children can participate.

• Children's Names: Avery, Carter, Dara, Harper, Henry,Jaxn, Kharli, Lucas, Max, and Rowan

• Student Council is selling Candy Grams - $1.00 per candy gram; deadline to purchase is Wednesday, February 10th.  Delivery date is Thursday February 11th.

• Thursday, February 11th will be a dress down day and students may wear red/pink for Valentine’s Day. Students may bring in valentines for their classmates, but please refrain from sending in any food treats per the email from Mrs. Fox-Tully’s email.

• There is no school on Friday, February 12th and Monday, February 15th.

• Enrollment contracts for the 2021-2022 academic year are due on Friday, February 26th.

• February is Black History Month when we will be celebrating Black history and culture. If you or someone you know would be willing to share with a class, a division , or multiple groups to enhance our celebration in any way, please email jmyers@holychildacademy.com and we will make it as easy as possible. 

• Looking forward, March is Women’s Month, April is Arab American Heritage Month, and May is Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. 

• Pre-K and Kindergarten are hosting a sock drive to benefit The Joy of Sox. Please send in NEW socks for men, women, and children and place them in the boxes in your hallway. The drive will run until February 19.

Parents 

This week we had a lot of fun learning, reading, and singing about Arctic animals.

We ended our special week with our teddy bears and building a cave.  I hope they had as much fun as Mrs. Morgan and I did.

STEAM 

This week Mrs. Zwilling introduced up to the  Sphero.  This is was their intro to robotics lesson. The  student were introduced to the concept that robots are things we can control (versus the ball that can not be controlled once it is in motion),  Using an iPad the moved the Sphero around (joystick and tilt controlled) to paint a picture of the Earth.

• EC report cards will be emailed home next week. There are no mandatory conferences at this time, but please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
